Kernersville is home to many different programs and activities for the elderly. The Shepherd’s Center of Kernersville has made a huge impact in the elderly Kernersville community and surrounding areas such as Walkertown, Oak Ridge, and Colfax for 28 years. The Shepherd’s Center is an interfaith ministry of volunteers which champions and sustains adults who are aging or disabled. They empower individuals and enrich the lives of older or disabled adults in our community, which provides dignity, respect, purpose, and other essentials of life.
The Shepherd’s Center offers many programs such as Respite Companion Sitters, Visitation, Senior Enrichment Center, Telephone Reassurance, Transportation, Bill Radisch Computer Center, Dental Clinics, Loan Medical Equipment, etc. The Kernersville Senior Enrichment Center is a North Carolina Senior Center of Excellence, its mission is to provide life-enriching activities, services and growth opportunities in the arts, education and enrichment, fun and games, and health and wellness. The classes at the Senior Center are mostly free of charge; however there are a few that require fees. Seniors must be 55 years or older to participate at the Senior Enrichment Center and 60 years of age or older for any other programs unless permanently disabled.
This weekend we will be participating in the annual Shepherd’s Center Golf Tournament to raise funds and helps enable them to continue to support adults who are aging or disabled in the community through their 14 programs. The tournament will be held at Pine Knolls Golf Club, this Friday, September 19, with a shotgun start at 1:30pm. The Golf Tournament is a fun event and is beneficial to our community, if you are interested in attending the tournament please go to http://www.shepctrkville.com/news/23rd-annual-golf-tournament.
